Web Application Security - For Dummies - Part - 1

Web application security - I strongly believe before learning to secure something, we should understand what we are securing. To secure web application we have to  understand web application aka any application which we access via web browser.

What is browser - Almost every one uses in day to day life to check Facebook  Gmail, Banking, E-shopping, Real estate and what not. Browser is very intelligent  program which can understand HTML tags like <head>, <body>,<p> etc and parse it and present what you see on browser window.

I would recommend below resource for complete understanding and learning of HTML  aka the web language.

Now we have HTML and Browser which are very basic for web site. Website with only HTML feature looks very plain and boring. To enhance its presentation and feature we use CSS(Cascading style sheet) and JavaScript.

CSS - used for styling of HTML where we can give color, font ,padding etc.

JavaScript - Is not  scripting language from Java. Please read below link for better understanding of JavaScript.

Now you know what is HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I would encourage you to write a simple web page using HTML,CSS and JavaScript and open with your web browser.

We will see how to build a dynamic web page in part-2

Please provide your valuable comments.

Close Citibank Salary Acc Without Visiting Branch

Many of us get salary account from Citibank. Citibank salary account is really good, however when salary is not regularly deposited salary account(Suvidha account) will be converted into saving bank account.
The drawback of Citibank saving  account is we have to maintain a minimum balance of 2 Lakh rupees! yes you heard it rite 2 Lakh rupees.

How to close this account ?

There are two options

1) Walk into Citibank branch with your account closing request letter.
2) Use Postal service to send your account closing request letter.

For 1st option please visit http://wisevishvesh.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/closing-citibank-savings-account/
where author has provided clear steps.

For 2nd option follow below.

I chosen second option as there is no near by Citibank branch.

1.Reduce your balance to Zero.
Just to be on safer side, reduce you account balance to zero. Withdraw or transfer your fund to your other account.

2.Download the form from link -http://wisevishvesh.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/citibank_suvidha_account_closure_letter.doc
3. Mention your account details- Saving, ERA etc.
4. Take a printout and sign the form.
5. Post form with ordinary post or through courier.

By ordinary post:

Citibank N.A,
P O box No. 4830
Anna road post office
Chennai 600 002

By courier

Citibank N.A.
Mailroom
No.2, Club House Road, Chennai 600 002

I used ordinary post with 5 rupees stamp.

Wait for 5 to 6 working days, you will get a mail and sms account closing confirmation. Now you can destroy your debit card and check book.

To close your Citibank credit card account just call them and request for a closure. You will get a confirmation call from Citibank executive to close your Citibank credit account.

Hope this was helpful.

Home Search

More than sixty percent of Bangalore population lives on rented accommodation. Now your thinking, why i am saying this every one knows! all right coming to point now.

Some tips for searching and selecting home.

1) Never search home after sun light, you can not check ventilation and other minute things which are visible only in sun light.
2) Never believe your broker and house owner they will promise 24/7 water, parking and other amenities. Check with neighbors particularly from same building if cauvery(soft water) water is available or not.
3) Try to avoid ground floor - Not much ventilation as most of buildings in Bangalore are very closely built, Noise and air pollution, drainage problems and in rainy season water may enter into your house!
4) Before selecting the house let your spouse, children and parents inspect once, they may find things inconvenient which you can not ignore.
5) Search for newly built houses, these will not have much maintenance and you will get latest fixtures and wardrobes compared to old ones.
6) Do not make any payment without documents, try to delay payment as much as possible.
7) Search as many house as possible from different brokers and other classifieds, anyway you will pay brokerage so search as many as possible. Never compromise with your selection, take time and search.

Please add your valuable points with comments.
